NewsTriggers is committed to transparency about how we use artificial intelligence in our journalism. This policy explains what AI does and does not do in our newsroom.
How We Use AI
AI tools assist our journalists in several ways:
- Research assistance: AI helps identify relevant sources, background information, and data patterns to support reporting.
- Data analysis: AI processes large datasets to surface trends and anomalies that inform investigative reporting.
- Draft assistance: AI may generate initial drafts that are then substantially rewritten, fact-checked, and edited by human journalists.
- Fact-checking support: AI helps verify claims by cross-referencing multiple sources, though all fact-checks are confirmed by human editors.
What AI Does Not Do
- AI does not make editorial decisions about what to cover or how to frame stories.
- AI does not conduct interviews or interact with sources.
- AI does not publish content without human review and approval.
- AI does not replace the judgment of experienced journalists and editors.
Human Oversight
Every article published by NewsTriggers is reviewed by at least one human editor before publication. Our editorial team has final authority over all content decisions, including accuracy, fairness, tone, and newsworthiness.
Labeling
Articles that used AI assistance in the research or drafting process include a disclosure at the bottom of the article. We believe readers have a right to know how our content is produced.
Quality Assurance
AI-assisted content undergoes the same rigorous editorial review as all other content. Our fact-checking standards, sourcing requirements, and editorial guidelines apply equally regardless of how an article was initially researched or drafted.
Handling AI Errors
If an error in an AI-assisted article is identified, we follow our standard Corrections Policy. We track AI-related errors separately to continuously improve our quality assurance processes.
